Organ donation sees no race, gender, age, financial status or social class and that is a very beautiful thing. - Nefeterius Akeli McPherson
This is a radio interview that I did on March 1, 2012, with Kim Nelson-Ingram of The Help Desk. I talked about the importance of organ donation, how it indeed saves lives, and NBA great Alonzo Mourning also called in during the show. Please listen to the interview if you can. And if you’re not an organ donor, please become one. You can register to become an organ donor by going to Donate Life America’s website at www.donatelife.net.
This is a video Darian, Taitlyn’s older sister, made in memory of her.
This is an article from The Journal, the local newspaper in Martinsburg, West Virginia, about me meeting my donor’s family. My donor was sweet 12-year-old Taitlyn Shae Hughes. In the article my first name is spelled wrong, Taitlyn’s middle name is spelled wrong and my mother’s name is incorrectly stated as Cindy. Nevertheless, please read this article to find out more about our organ donation/transplantation story.
Welcome to Help Donate Life.
My name is Nefeterius Akeli McPherson and I am a recent liver transplant recipient. I was transplanted at Georgetown University Hospital on Sunday, November 6, 2011. My donor was 12-year-old Taitlyn Shae Hughes. Since I received my “gift of life,” I have become very passionate about educating others about the importance of organ donation. I am especially interested in helping to increase minority participation in organ donation.
This website is in the infancy phase so please be patient with me as I work to develop it. More information, including personal stories from my journey will be available here soon. In the meantime, please Help Donate Life by registering to be an organ donor at www.donatelife.net.
